What do you really like? It’s a question I ask myself occasionally, only to find out I don’t really like anything at all. Do I have a hobby at all - something that I find a desire to do when I have the time? Right now I have the time, but I find myself playing Diablo 3. It’s a game that I find quite boring, so soul-sucking, so time-consuming, and yet I continue to play it automatically. To me, all games should be fleeting, should amuse you while it can and should distract you and take you away from this world for awhile and only awhile. Anything more than this, it’s called a competition.
When was the last time I enjoyed something routinely, making me look forward that part of the day or week? The last time I remember, it was supporting Liverpool FC and watching their games week in, week out. And this was 2 years ago. Things changed since then, well… keep changing actually that I lost touch of what I know of them. It wasn’t so much that they didn’t win often, but more because things are no longer stable in the football club. The management keeps changing, players keep coming in and out, expectations going on a roller coaster ride and becoming disillusioned with fans’ delusional one-sided way of looking at things. Last season, I watched barely half of their games. I could no longer find any interest in what has happened for changes are a constant happening. Suddenly I realised football is more than football for money dictates how things go. Players have their value, players want their value, and the football club wants value. Players may have loyalty, but the club wants its money. The club may have faith in the players, but the players wants more money.
And why the 2 pictures above? Because these players come from different places to the same football club and played their part in the club’s best and most enjoyable period in recent years, only to eventually embark on their different paths to pursue their different ambitions. And it’s nice to see them still hanging out together as friends because they remember.
I hope when the new upcoming football season starts, I can find that passion once more. Because everyone needs to love something.
